SMCJ48

TVS (Transient Voltage Suppression) diodes are used to protect various electrical and electronic systems from damaging voltage transients. The SMCJ48 series TVS-diode from ON Semiconductor is designed to protect low-voltage components from transient overvoltages. The diode is available with 8 different breakdown voltages, from 5.8 V to 59 V.

The TVS diode uses an avalanche breakdown mechanism. When the diode is connected in series with the operating circuit, the transient voltage is applied to the diode. Once the voltage on the diode exceeds its breakdown voltage, the electron-hole pairs created by the avalanche effect allow a current in the reverse direction. This provides a low impedance path for the transient voltage, protecting the circuit from any damage. The diode is designed to operate with high dynamic impedance, thus allowing a very low forward voltage drop before clamping occurs.

The SMCJ48 TVS diode comes in a compact SMC (surface mount) package which can be easily integrated into the target circuit. The diode is rated for peak pulse power up to 1500 W and peak pulse current up to 40 A, and is suitable for use in a broad range of operating temperatures (from -65 °C to 175 °C).

The diode\'s low clamping voltage helps extend the operating life of electronic components when exposed to overvoltage transients, thus protecting the system from any risk of damage.
