PTC Resettable Fuses are self-resetting molded body fuses which are nowadays widely used in a variety of electronic circuits for protecting against thermal or overload issues. SMD150-2 is one of these fuses which uses a modified version of the polymeric positive temperature coefficient (PPTC) structure. SMD150-2 has a wide application range within the electronic circuits and it works in the following principle.
Generally, the working principle of PTC Resettable Fuses is based on the fact that when a current passes through them, as it goes higher than a certain threshold, they increase their resistance. This increase of resistance causes a heating effect which eventually interrupts the flow of current, making them act as a thermal control. That is why these fuses are employed in those circuits where the current can reach an unsafe level.
SMD150-2 is quite specialized in comparison to other PTC Resettable Fuses, and has some advantages which makes it a preferred choice for certain applications. It has a response time which is significantly shorter than that of other fuses, often allowing for a more rapid response to an overload issue.
