The SMDA05C/TR7 series of Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) diodes is a high performance device with industry-leading surge performance and fast response. It is ideal for a wide variety of applications including but not limited to consumer electronics, IT/communications, automotive electronics, and even industrial system.

The package size of SMDA05C/TR7 is small, making it an excellent choice when space restrictions are an issue. The device has a termination style of 2-pin, which makes installation especially easy. The SMDA05C/TR7 provides very high protection from electrostatic discharge (ESD) as well as from voltage transient surges, such as lightning-induced transients and IEC 61000-4-2, Level 4 induced transients. The SMDA05C/TR7 utilizes a silicon avalanche diode as its primary protection element. This diode is capable of conducting large currents and exhibiting low clamping voltage during surge events. As the current rises, it creates a high electric field and ultimately causes an avalanche breakdown. This breakdown serves to suddenly reduce the voltage across the diode by providing a path for the current to flow away from the protected circuits. Once the surge is over, the diode then resets itself and returns to its off state to begin protecting again.

In addition, the SMDA05C/TR7 features an internal dielectric barrier that helps to suppress large transient events. This dielectric barrier is designed to direct the current surge into the avalanche diode, allowing the diode to conduct the surge away from the protected circuit. This reduces the impact of transient events on the protected circuits and ensures their stable operation.
