The SMR800PS12 is a high efficiency (up to 98%) and low ripple/noise (<50mV) AC/DC converter module, designed to generate adjustable or fixed outputs from a wide AC input range of 85~264VAC. It offers overload, over voltage, and short circuit protection; as well as output adjustment in 1V increments from 4.2V to 29V through an external potentiometer and soft start feature. Its low cost, small size and high efficiency make it ideal for designs requiring reliable, inexpensive and secure power supply for low power lighting applications such as LED’s or other low power consuming devices.The SMR800PS12 is also suitable for a wide range of other applications, including high-end audio streaming equipment, heating systems, water filtration systems, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) and AV (audio and video) equipment, just to name a few.

Working Principle of SMR800PS12

The SMR800PS12 employs a flyback topology, in which the primary side generates a sinusoidal waveform and the secondary side converts the energy into different voltage outputs. The primary and secondary side consists of inductors, transformers, capacitors, regulating coils, and switching elements. The converter is controlled by an IC which monitors the output of the power and makes sure that the input and output voltages remain within a certain range.When a loading is connected to the output of the unit, the IC monitors the output voltage and alters the switching frequency of the primary side of the converter accordingly. When the load connected to the power supply is too low the switch is closed for a longer period of time to avoid overloading, while if the load is too high then the switch is closed only for a short period of time.The input voltage to the SMR800PS12 is stepped down by the transformer, and the rectifier bridge further transforms the voltage to DC voltage. The filter capacitor at the output of the rectifier bridge smoothens the waveform and produces a ripple free DC output, while the output regulator regulates the voltage so that it can be used as desired.
