The SMV1147-011LF is a type of Varicap, or Variable Capacitance, diode that has a variety of applications. It is commonly used as an RF tuning and oscillating circuit device, operating on DC power supplies between the range of 1.8V - 8.4V. The Varicap diode is based upon an intrinsic semiconductor diode’s properties which enable it to alter the capacitance of a circuit when a voltage is applied. This diode is also known as a Varactor, because of its non-linear diode capacitance which is dependent on the reverse voltage. This means that as the reverse voltage is altered, so will the capacitance of the device change accordingly.The SMV1147-011LF Varicap consists mainly of P-type and N-type semiconductor layers. While one half of the diode contains P-type layers which are designed to accept holes, the other contains N-type layers which are designed to accept electrons. A reverse voltage which is applied to the diode creates an electric field in the junction which causes the capacitance to change. This Varicap diode is particularly suited to use in devices such as radio frequency receivers and scanners, demonstrating strong tuning abilities and stability when operated at a frequency of up to 5GHz with a bias voltage in the range of 6V. The SMV1147-011LF also works in various phase locked loop (PLL) applications due to the smooth and linear variations of capacitance over voltage range.In terms of use, the SMV1147-011LF has a low capacitance of 5.6-7.6pf in the bias range of 6V and high capacitance of 24-32pf in the 2V bias range, a wide capacitance tuning range of approx. 20pf-28pf in the 6V bias range and an insulation resistance of over 73Gohm in 3V or 8V bias voltage range.Overall, the SMV1147-011LF Varicap diode is an impressive an reliable device that has a wide range of applications and can be powered with a DC voltage range, making it an ideal choice for many applications.
