Variable capacitance diode, also known as varicap diode, varactor diode, or tuning diode, is a diode that can be used as a variable capacitance device. The capacitance of the device depends on the applied reverse bias voltage, and can be much greater than that of a normal diode. The SMV2026-040LF has two aliphatic thyristor structures. Each junction consists of a anode-cathode-cathode-anode sequence. It is also used in radio receivers and transmitters for frequency tuning and automatically gain control. It can also be used in frequency stabilized oscillators to minimize voltage noise and in AM/FM tuners as a frequency discriminator.

The SMV2026-040LF is available in SOT-23A package and its insulating layer has a high thermal conductivity of 2.5 times that of a conventional package. This device provides a working frequency range from 6 to 1000MHz in a wide range of voltage from 0.8 to 8V. It also provides a low series resistance of 0.85 which enables the device to have fast switching time and a low capacitive phase shift of 0.3 dB or less.
