The SN65C3243 Serial Bus Transceiver is a differential bus transceiver that provides balanced communication across symmetrical bus lines. It is a driver/receiver solution to a variety of applications, such as switched modem sharing, computer communication networks, and mid-level bus structures. The SN65C3243 features a high-level output capability, low power consumption, elimination of external compensation components, and fast propagation delays. Application Field

Working Principle
The SN65C3243 consists of a differential line driver, a differential line receiver, wave shaping circuitry and fail-safe circuitry. The differential line driver receives data from the data input (DI) and transmits it in differential form on the output lines (A and B). The transmitter output is determined by the state of the data inputs with the output states taking on one of four possible combinations of the logical levels. The differential line receiver receives the data on the input lines (A and B) and outputs the recovered data on the data output (DO) line.
The SN65C3243 also includes wave shaping circuitry which ensures that the pulse edges conform to the EIA/TIA-485 standards. This circuitry helps to reduce noise susceptibility. Finally, the fail-safe circuitry ensures that the outputs are in a valid state if either the transmit or receive input pins are left open or shorted.
The SN65C3243 can be used in multi-drop or point-to-point systems, and is rated for up to 128 nodes. It is capable of working with 5V, 3.3V and 2.5V supply voltages, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications.
