The SN74ABTH16245DL (hereinafter referred to as the ‘Device’) is a dual-channel, 16-bit, low-voltage CMOS transceiver manufactured by Texas Instruments, Inc. (hereinafter referred to as TI). The Device has two 16-bit channels, each capable of input/output rates up to 125 Mbps when used in a zero-delay buffer configuration with 3.3V logic interfaces. It can be used as a buffer, driver, receiver, or transceiver to interconnect two devices with different logic families, allowing them to communicate quickly and effectively.

The SN74ABTH16245DL finds applications in many fields and is a popular choice for digital systems that require high speed and low power consumption. It is suitable for automotive, industrial, networking, and consumer applications such as microprocessor-to-memory and communications interfaces, as well as to support data exchanges between multiple microprocessors, or multiple sets of memories and microprocessors. Additionally, these low power transceivers feature voltage-level shifting corresponding to the transmitter-side VCC selected.

The SN74ABTH16245DL features two 16-bit channels configured in the same manner. Each channel consists of a series of Schmitt-triggered input buffers, a diffusion-resistor series, two source-resistor series, and two sink-terminals. The Device’s 32 channels are internally connected in parallel to 24 multiplexers, each one of which is selectable as either an output or an input buffer. When configured as an output buffer, the multiplexer chooses between a low or high output depending on the logic level of the input. When set to input mode, the multiplexer effectively isolates the input from the output.

The SN74ABTH16245DL has a number of security and reliability features built in. These include a programmable power-down mode, a watch-dog capability, over-current detection and immunity, and a fault-detection system. Voltage clamping is also provided for power supply and input-signal surge protection. An internal diode-array ensures that all inputs are passed through the device without any notable distortion. The Device also features busy and high-current flags to indicate when a transceiver is actively transmitting and when a high-current condition, such as Power-on or Reset, is occurring.

The SN74ABTH16245DL is classified as a logic transmitter and receiver, buffer, driver, or transceiver due to its ability to integrate two different logic families and support data transmission between those two families.
