Logic - Shift Registers allow the binary value stored in the register to be shifted or rotated left or right by one or more bits. The SN74ALS323DWRG4 is one such shift register, allowing a single bit of data to be shifted in and out with each clock pulse. In addition, the SN74ALS323DWRG4 supports configurable functions such as serial and parallel loading, latching, random access, and counter operations.
The SN74ALS323DWRG4 is composed of 8 latches, 8 ports for external connections, 1 shift register oscillator, and 4 channels for output. Each latch is composed of two parts, which work together to both retain a single binary bit and transfer it to the shift register. The lower part of a latch is the input, and the upper part is the output. When the clock signal is high, the outputs from the two lower parts are connected to the upper two parts and all latch classes are activated. When the clock signal is low, the upper two parts act as inputs of latches and the lower two parts act as outputs. Therefore, data is shifted at the positive edge of the clock signal.
