As the data is shifted from left to right, the clock signal must be provided to each latch, thus storing the data from the data input of the latch.The fourth latch of the SN74ALS577ANSR has a separate data input (D4) and clock input (Clk4). As previously stated, valid data must enter the first latch (D0) to start the cycle. The fourth latch will store data from the data input (D4) when the clock input (Clk4) is set at a logic high (5V).
