SN74AS1034AD is a high-performance octal non-inverting buffer/line driver. it is widely used in numerous application fields, specially in logic and circuitry translation. This article introduces the general application field and working principle of SN74AS1034AD, so that we can gain more understanding of its usage.SN74AS1034AD is widely used for driving flexibility by providing a wide functionality and a range of package options. It is commonly used to buffer or drive large bus or variable loading and provides four active-low bus hold address inputs, four active-high chip enable enabling inputs, and eight bidirectional I/O pins. It is easy to cascade by connecting multiple devices to create larger buffer/line drivers.In terms of its application fields, SN74AS1034AD is frequently employed in data communication, as it can place transmission lines, or to be used in a system clock distribution network, with or without repeaters. This is because it covers such a wide range of areas - from microprocessors to multiple clock sources and different microprocessors. Moreover, the octal buffer works with two 1.2V to 3.6V power supply and can drive up to 10 TTL loads with 24mA peak current which makes it very suitable for microprocessor control, system clock distribution and a wide range of data communication applications. For example, it can be used as a bus transceiver and interface for translating to two separate buses, such as for LVTTL and CMOS.In terms of its working principle, the SN74AS1034AD comprises a pair of latch-type drivers, where each one comprises of two pass transistors which are interconnected to provide non-inverting logic levels, with one transistor receiving the input signal and the other transistor driving the load. This coupling ensures noise affecting the load is not directly transmitted to the output. The basic circuit of an octal non-inverting buffer is illustrated in figure 1.Figure 1 – basic circuit of SN74AS1034ADIn figure 1, inputs A0 through A7 are connected to the corresponding non-inverting inputs of the buffer’s eight buffers. When Gx is high, the inputs A0 through A7 control the respective outputs. When Gx is low, the data present on the buffer’s inputs is latched in and the plated pass gates are enabled. The outputs are then driven by the latched data.Besides the active-low bus hold address inputs and the active-high chip enable enabling inputs, the SN74AS1034AD also contains four active-high control inputs to select various operating modes. SELx is active high and selects the buffer’s default state either high or low. ENx is active high and enables the buffer’s outputs. DISx is active high and disables the buffer’s outputs. />In summary, the SN74AS1034AD is an octal non-inverting buffer/line driver which is widely used in numerous application fields, from data communication to system clock distribution. This makes it an ideal choice for microprocessor control, system clock distribution and a wide range of data communication applications. It contains four active-low bus hold address inputs and four active-high chip enable enabling inputs, as well as four active-high control inputs to select different operating modes.
