The SN74LS629N device is a programmable oscillator and timer circuit that can be used in many different electronics applications. The SN74LS629N is an oscillator and timer circuit, but unlike other circuits available on the market, the SN74LS629N is also programmable. This device has a programmable cycle time (called Clock period, in units of seconds) which can be adjusted on the fly, without introducing delays or unnecessarily causing the system to reboot. The cycle time is controlled by a shift register whose output is connected to the Timer DO pin. The actual timing values are entered into the register by the on-chip status register, which is also programmable. The register is updated in real-time, allowing for a programmable frequency range of 0.004 to 16 seconds per cycle.
The Clock/Timing port at the SN74LS629N also allows for external connections to various displays and drivers. There are two channels available, which can be used to drive LCD displays, LEDs or even servo motors. Thanks to these connections, the device can be used to create displays, animations and a variety of other response-based systems.
The SN74LS629N also features an oscillator output, which is also externally controllable. By using the internal clock generator, the SN74LS629N is capable of generating oscillations at frequencies ranging from 16Hz to 8MHz. The output frequency is tunable using the on-board Status Register, allowing for precise tuning of the output frequency.
