It is an 8-bit High-performance First-in, Last-out (FIFO) buffer storage device which can store as much as 256 bytes of data in 8-bit increments. It integrates two vertical packet registers and a horizontal shift register on a single monolithic integrated circuit (IC).

This FIFO is usually used in applications when the time required for one set of data to be received and stored is longer than the time for the other set of data to be transmitted and stored.
