Introduction

The SN75189ANSR is a high-performance dual monolithic line driver designed to operate from a single 5-volt supply. It is designed to meet the requirements of EIA Standard RS-232 and to provide an interface between computers and long-distance, high-speed and wide-band communications. This device is based on two-level driver/receiver/transceiver architecture, and so is referred to as a dual quad driver/receiver. Working Principle

The SN75189ANSR consists of four independent line drivers, consisting of two driver circuits each, sharing a common output and a single receiver circuit. The two driver circuits of each line drive independently, with no direct connection between them. This allows the device to provide two levels of output voltage, providing the capability to drive long cables and low-impedance communications networks.

The SN75189ANSR uses a patented current-limiting technology to maintain constant output current and to minimize cross talk and noise. This current-limiting circuitry acts as a self-adjusting circuit, so that when an increased current is needed, the output current is automatically increased, and when a decreased current is needed, it is automatically reduced.
