The SP211CA-L is a high performance, quad differential line driver and receiver optimized for RS-485 and USBTTL applications. It is designed to support data rates up to 8Mbps. The device provides a cost effective solution for high speed data communications, featuring low power consumption, low propagation delay and low EMI emissions.The SP211CA-L has four differential line driver and receiver channels that are pin compatible with Maxim\'s popular RS-485 transceiver family. The SP211CA-L also includes an optional wide-range supply voltage of 2.5 V to 5.5 V or 3.3 V to 5.5 V, and is able to handle high data rates, up to 8 Mbps. It can be used for both RS-485 and USBTTL applications.

The working principle of the SP211CA-L lies in its two main core components, the receiver and the driver. The receiver converts the received differential signal (TXD+ and TXD-) into a single-ended, logic-level signal. This signal is then processed and shared to the output receiver pins (DATA+ and DATA-). Meanwhile, the driver takes the input logic levels signals (DATA+ and DATA-) and converts them into a differential signal, which is transmitted to the receiver pins (TXD+ and TXD-). This process is done by the driver through the external driver supply voltage applied to the VPOS and VNEG pins.
The SP211CA-L uses data rate control to drive and receive data. When the SP211CA-L operates in a low-power mode, the RS-485 or USBTTL line is driven until the control voltage on the DCC pin changes. The driver then enters the low-power mode, reducing the power consumption and increasing the efficiency of the device. The device is not designed to drive or receive data while it is in low-power mode.
The SP211CA-L also features a low-emission mode (L-EMI), which reduces the electromagnetic emissions generated by the device. The L-EMI mode is enabled by applying a control voltage to the LEMI pin, which sets the driver to a low-emission mode, reducing the maximum output drive current to one third of its normal value.
