The SP331CT-L is a low-power line driver, receiver, and transceiver that offers a wide range of features for both line coding and interface applications. It operates as a line driver, sending data through a balanced line or cable, and as a receiver, receiving data from an open-drain or push-pull port. It also functions as a transceiver, allowing data to be transmitted and received on the same limited line. This transceiver can be used in a variety of data communications applications, and is designed to minimize power consumption, minimize EMI radiation, and maximize transmission distance.The SP331CT-L is a monolithic surface mount device that incorporates a TTL/CMOS compatible UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) port and a selectable full-duplex transceiver. The UART port is a full duplex, 8-bit wide, 8-bit data-frame, non-return-to zero (NRZ) synchronous serial port. It is also compatible with the standard IEEE 1284C synchronous serial protocol. The transceiver section is programmable to allow for the selection of up to 8 different communication protocols, including 10/100Mb/s Ethernet, 10Mb/s Token Ring, 16Mb/s Fibre Channel, and 6Mb/s Fibre Channel. The transceiver is PCM compatible, allowing the device to be connected directly to direct access storage device (DASD) devices with no additional adapter card.The SP331CT-L transceiver operates by applying a voltage across a differential line and then measuring the voltage return on the corresponding line of the line pair. Through this, it accurately transmits and receives logic levels along the line. To minimize power consumption and maximize transmission distance, special circuitry controls the power output of the device to a safe and efficient level for both short and extended distance communications.The SP331CT-L provides advanced features such as clock synchronization, error detection, and data flow control. Clock synchronization is accomplished through a programmable on-chip clock generator, while error detection is done via a parity checker. A data flow control feature is also included to ensure the accuracy and integrity of data transmission over the line.The SP331CT-L is available in a standard SOIC package, with optional LQFP packages for surface mount and through hole applications. It is designed to operate within an industrial temperature range of -40°C to +85°C and is RoHS compliant and Lead-Free. The SP331CT-L is suitable for use in fiber optic, Ethernet, and data communications systems, as well as in any application requiring a low-power, wide-range, programmable interface.
