The SP385ECA-L is an RS-485 line transceiver, which converts a logic level signal indicating data information into an electrical signal suitable for transmission over balanced line, and vice versa. It facilitates communication between devices using asynchronous serial communication methods such as Modbus and Profibus. The device is often used in industrial automation, test and measurement, product and equipment control and other related applications.

SP385ECA-L have a full duplex capability, meaning it is capable of simultaneously sending and receiving data across a pair of wires. It requires a differential signaling input, such as RS-485 specification, which is transmitted over a two-wire balanced line, with shared data and clock signals.

SP385ECA-L consist of a high speed line transceiver and two drivers, capable of sending and receiving data rates up to 40Mbit/s with low power consumption, enabling multi-point data transmission in industrial environments. The transceiver provides logic-level control signals to enable, direction control and active bus monitoring. The devices supplied with a VCC voltage of 5.5V are enabled when the ENABLE pin voltage is low.

The SP385ECA-L transceiver is designed to provide galvanic isolation between the RS-485 line and the logic interface circuit, with a wide range of common mode voltage tolerance and line state detection capability. It also has a low EMI noise emission capability, making it suitable for applications with high performance EMI requirements.

The transceiver is provided with a receiver sensitivity of -7.5V, which allows for longer bus length and is immune to noise generated by capacitive crosstalk and ground loops. The device is also capable of data speed operation up to 40Mbit/s and includes a slew-rate limiter to reduce radiation, as well as a rise-time compensator to prevent signal distortion due to long bus lengths.

The receiver also contains Bus voltage loss detection and Bus idle current detection, which improve the noise margin. The device features open collector output, which allows the receiver to be used in noisy environments. It also supports long line stubs and short-circuit protection.
