Aluminum - Polymer Capacitors

SPCX101M06R is a type of aluminum – polymer capacitor. It is a hybrid electric double layer capacitor (EDLC) that is increasingly being used in the majority of electronic industry applications. It is a new development in non-volatile capacitor energy storage and is becoming extensively used in applications that require high energy storage containment. Aluminum – polymer capacitors are especially suitable for applications that need high capacitance and low leakage currents but that also require stable dielectric.

Aluminum – polymer capacitors are made from a mix of different materials, including carbon, aluminum, and polymer, and a ‘dry’ electrolyte solution. The three main components; carbon, aluminum, and polymer enable the device to be highly-efficient and durable for use in the majority of industry applications. This type of capacitor is capable of maintaining the capacitance over a wide operating temperature range (from -25℃ to 85℃) and has a huge cycling life of up to 1 million times. The capacitors low-profile construction and flat design allow it to be used in limited space and with a wide range of humidity environments.

When power is supplied, static charge is formed between the carbon film and the aluminum film in the capacitor. The static charge is transferred and stored as capacitance energy in the capacitor. The capacitance of the SPCX101M06R is adjustable (0.10uF to 0.47uF) and the operating temperature is much higher than the general aluminum electrolytic capacitors (105°C of life expectation). Additionally, the SPCX101M06R is able to handle high current and maintain a low ESR value, allowing it to maximize its output current rise time.
