Fixed Inductors

Inductors are passive electronic components that store energy in a magnetic field and release energy when an alternating current of a stipulated frequency is applied in them. Inductors have various categories such as air core inductors, iron core inductors, ferrite core inductors as well as Fixed Inductors. As the name suggests, Fixed Inductors are those which have fixed inductors values and are generally used for radio-frequency applications. One such example of fixed inductors is the SPM4012T-1R5M Inductor. This is a low-profile power inductor designed for a wide variety of applications such as DC/DC converters, orchards, general consumer electronics and mobile communication devices. It is composed of a ferrite core which is then enclosed inside a molded plastic case. It has a rated inductance that is measured at 1.5µH with a tolerance of 10%. It also has a rated current of 1.1A and a DC resistance of 0.470Ω. The inductance temperature coefficient is +2.5%, and the operating temperature ranges from 0°C to +85°C. The quality factor (Q-value) at 1MHz is about 20 and at 100MHz is around 40 with a self-resonant frequency of 8GHz.The working principle of the SPM4012T-1R5M is relatively simple. When current flows through the inductor, a magnetic field is created that stores energy in the form of a magnetic field. When the current is shutoff, this energy is released back into the circuit in the form of an AC current. The frequency of this current is dependent on the inductance of the inductor. When a high frequency current is applied, the frequency of the current is higher, whereas when a low frequency current is applied, the frequency of the current is lower. The magnetic field created by the current is also dependent on the strength of the current. A weak current will create a weak magnetic field and a strong current will create a strong magnetic field. The strength of the magnetic field also affects the inductance, which in turn affects the frequency of the current as well as the amplitude of the current. The SPM4012T-1R5M can also be used for temperature compensation. Since the inductance is based on the magnetic field, when the temperature changes, the magnetic field also changes. This will affect the inductance, and the frequency of the current will change as well. Due to the low profile design of the SPM4012T-1R5M and its wide range of applications, it is a great choice for many applications such as DC/DC converters, automotive applications, consumer electronics, and mobile communication devices. The inductor can also be used for temperature compensation as well as frequency compensation due to its wide temperature range and strong magnetic field.
