Unlike conventional capacitors, aluminum - polymer capacitors have a continuous electro-chemical reaction occurring between the aluminum electrodes and the electrolyte inside the device. This electro-chemical reaction allows the capacitors to have a much higher capacitance compared to a traditional capacitor.The SPSX181M0ER is a very popular aluminum - polymer capacitor due to its frequent usage in many applications. It is a radial lead capacitor with a maximum voltage rating of 2000 volts and a capacitance of 4.7μF. It is a very versatile capacitor, offering excellent performance in many applications ranging from power management, audio & video equipment, or even automotive applications.The SPSX181M0ER’s working principle can be divided into four parts. Firstly, a voltage is applied to the two aluminium electrodes which causes an electrolyte solution inside the capacitor to convert into a highly resistive polymer. Then, this polymer layer works as a dielectric material to separate the two electrodes. As the voltage potential difference is applied across the two electrodes, an electric field is created. This electric field forces the electrons to jump across the polymer layer, thus producing a current. Finally, this current is stored within the polymer layer and is revealed to the two terminals of the capacitor allowing the transfer of current.In terms of its application field, the SPSX181M0ER is usually seen in high frequency applications where a low ESR is required. Its low ESR helps to reduce power system noise and increases efficiency. This makes the SPSX181M0ER an ideal choice for applications such as switching power supplies, motor control systems, and other high frequency applications. This capacitor is also widely used in automotive applications such as filters, modules, and power supply systems. Additionally, the SPSX181M0ER is widely used in telecommunications equipment, audio equipment, and general consumer electronics for its low dielectric absorption and very low loss characteristics.
