The SPX432N-L integrated circuit is a Voltage Reference device that is designed to provide a steady and reliable level of voltage to a variety of applications. It is intended to be used in the industrial, automotive and consumer markets in a number of different systems and devices, including data acquisition systems, smart meters, motor control systems, and communications equipment. The SPX432N-L is part of STMicroelectronics’ Smart Power family of products and is available in an 8-pin SOIC package.
The SPX432N-L’s voltage reference is based on a programmable linear regulator topology. The voltage output can range from 1.235V to 13.2V and is user adjustable using an external resistor network. The device provides excellent line and load regulation which enables the voltage output to remain extremely stable, even when under heavy load or when connected to long cables. The device also provides good temperature coefficients to minimize errors resulting from temperature drifts.
The SPX432N-L stands apart from many other voltage references on the market due to its ability to provide a current limited regulated output. This feature ensures that even in the event of a short-circuit of the output, the device will protect itself and the circuit it is operating in, allowing it to recover automatically when the short is removed. The device also provides a 250mV minimum dropout voltage, ensuring that it can maintain regulation even when the input voltage is just slightly above the output voltage.
The SPX432N-L is designed to be highly reliable and consumes very little power. Its low quiescent current of 10µA allows it to operate in a wide range of battery powered applications, while its patented self-protection circuitry reduces the number of external components required. Furthermore, the device is resistant to latch-up due to its advanced circuit protection features.
