PTC Resettable Fuses are devices which are circuit protectors that use a thermally sensitive, positive temperature coefficient (PTC) resistor for overcurrent protection. Their function is to temporarily deactivate electrical circuits if there is a fault current, and re-enable them once it has been eliminated. This element is also connected with an end cap and terminals. The end cap ensures that no current flows through the SRP175SF. When the current trips the bimetal element, the end cap becomes heated. This heat is then transferred to the bimetal element, causing it to bend. As it bends, an internal contact is opened and the SRP175SF is deactivated.
The SRP175SF also features a resetting mechanism. When the fault is eliminated, the bimetal element cools and springs back to its original position. This process takes place over the course of several minutes. The resetting process typically begins when the case temperature reaches a certain amount. This is approximately 95°C (203°F).
The SRP175SF features a wide operating temperature range of -40°C to +105°C, making it well suited for use in a variety of environments. This also means the device is good for use in high vibration or shock environments, such as military or medical applications. It is an excellent way to protect against nuisance trips, as well as Thermal Overload Protection (TOP).
