Working Principle

The SS59ET Hall-effect sensor utilizes a Hall-effect principle to measure linear and angular magnetic fields in a wide range of applications. It is composed of a semiconductor material, normally silicon, and a micro-machined center metal contact as shown in Figure 1. The magnet produces a magnetic flux which is then converted into an electric signal current proportional to the magnetic field strength. When the magnetic field is applied to the Hall-effect sensor, the magnetic flux is divided into two separate gaps, one between the semiconductor material and the micro-machined contact, and the other between the contact and the attached magnetic field source. This electric signal is proportional to the applied magnetic field. Depending on the Hall-effect sensor used, the signal can be an analog or digital output.
