The SS94B1A is a precision linear, compass IC magnetic sensor. This device utilises the hall effect principle and the fluxgate principle and the signals thus generated are further processed within the IC itself. This device is extensively used in the automotive industry and has found application in navigation, longitude and latitude determination, ABS systems, airbag systems, gyroscopes, tilt sensors and compass systems.
The working principal of the SS94B1A is based on the Hall effect and the fluxgate principle. The Hall effect depends on the interaction between two magnetic field sources where a Hall voltage is generated. This Hall voltage is then amplified and further processed internally to produce an analogue output. The fluxgate principle relies on the use of a core magnetic material in a coil arrangement whereby a signal is received which is proportional to the magnetic field strength. This signal is then further amplified and internally processed to yield an analogue output.
The SS94B1A sensor utilises both of these working principals in order to accurately measure and track changes in magnetic field directions and strengths. Depending upon the application, the output can be configured for either analogue or digital format. The device offers a wide range of features such as an adjustable sensing range, adjustable dead zones and adjustable hysteresis. Additional features include an EEPROM for storage of programmed parameters which can be reprogrammed using a serial interface.
