The STCH02TR is a primary-side controller of a two-step AC-DC converter which enables simple, low cost and high performance AC-DC power supply designs. The device offers single-stage power conversion from high AC input voltages of up to 350VAC to selectable fixed output voltages of 9V, 12V, 15V, 18V, 24V, 36V, and 48V with OTP, CC and CV modes. The device adopts peak voltage mode control for tight output voltage regulation and fast load transient response. This peak voltage control scheme operates dynamically within 7ms under its control limit.
The device incorporates auto-restart when its output is shorted. Together with the under-voltage protection and programmable surge absorption, the device provides an unbeatable cost-performance solution.
The STCH02TR is built on a proprietary VIPower™ Technology, which includes not only a primary-side controller (standard STCH02TR), but also a dedicated secondary-side controller (STCH08) and associated MOSFETs. VIPower™ Technology combines a wide range of smart power management features, such as active voltage positioning (AVP), bridgeless topology, boundary conduction mode (BCM), and extra PWM spread modulation (eSPM) for maximum efficiency and minimum EMI.
The carefully designed topography of STCH02TR/STCH08 reduces the number components as well as the use of board space. This means sophisticated offline power solutions can be realized in extremely small packages.
The STCH02TR can either operate with an internal startup resistor, a separate startup circuit such as a diode or an NTC thermistor. That presents the flexibility to optimize a system’s cost, size, and performance without compromising each other. The STCH02TR also consists of an on-board temperature sensor which allow the user to program a thermal management solution.
The STCH02TR has and extremely low power start-up current of 25uA @ 350VAC. This allows the device to start under weak single phase or three phase conditions.
The STCH02TR also includes an embedded programmable start-up time, hysteretic current limit, and fast over-current protection. This makes the device robust enough to protect itself against severe output short-circuit and over-loads.
Overall, the STCH02TR is an excellent choice for AC to DC offline converters and offline switchers that demand solid performance, advanced features, and small form factors.
