As one of Texas Instruments’ common LED driver IC (Integrated Circuit) series, STLA02PUR is ASIC of Industry-standard LED drivers. STLA02PUR products are mainly applied in different power management applications and illuminated signals for cash registers, signs, mobiles phones and automotive applications. Utilizing a boost topology, STLA02PUR compensates for low input voltages down to 0.1 volts, and drives over single-string LEDs, made up of discrete LEDs, LED clusters, LED matrices and LED strips.STLA02PUR LED drivers is composed of four parts: the input pins, boost converter, output pins, and control section. Firstly, the input pins are used for power input, voltage and current monitoring, over-temperature protection and shutdown. The boost converter utilizes the inductance, two switches, and two power diodes to step-up or step-down the input voltage waveform to a higher or lower voltage level. Then, the outputs pins are responsible for changing the current through the LEDs, while the control circuit ensures that the boost converter functions properly and the current through the LEDs is constant.The STLA02PUR’s working principle is based on two principles: current sourcing and current sinking, which is an AC concept. When the input voltage is lower than the output voltage, the regulator works in current sourcing mode. In this mode, the STLA02PUR regulates both the voltage and the current of the load. When the input voltage is higher than the output voltage, the regulator works in current sinking mode. In this mode, the STLA02PUR conducts power from the input voltage to the load.The STLA02PUR has advantages compared to traditional discrete solutions. For example, it offers a low-voltage solution that works with any voltage between 0.1 - 45V, and its small physical size enables easy soldering and integration in mobile phone and automotive applications. It is also suitable for Li-ion battery applications, as it is bidirectional and can drive positive and negative voltage either with push or pull output. Furthermore, STLA02PUR features selectable maximum peak current and total RMS current. The IC constant current limit can be set up to 1A and the current accuracy can reach within 6%. Specific advantages with STLA02PUR LED driver IC include LED brightness and UV LED control, thermal protection and output current limiting, low battery leakage, ultra-low quiescent current, and efficient critical conduction buck operation.
