Working principle
The STM6315SDW13F acts as a reliable guard of a system’s supply rails. The device checks the voltages of all the power supplies the system relies on and generates the reset or watchdog signals appropriate to the detected situation. When the system\'s power supplies start to drop below the regulation point, the device acknowledges and provides feedback through one of two signals: RESET# and RESET_B, or WDT# and WDT_B.
When the device receives a RESET# signal, it will initiate a system reset, alerting and advising the system that its power level has fallen outside the acceptable range and to reset itself. On the other hand, when WDT# is activated, the microcontroller will be alerted that it has a potential for reset and begin to modify its behavior accordingly. For example, a microcontroller may begin executing plan B of its functionality, rather than risking a sudden reset from a power failure.
The user has control over the time thresholds of the device. On-chip programmable logic allows the user to set reset hold-off times, reset digital delay and manual reset pulse injection capability. Also, two stage analog watchdog with programmable thresholds provide precise measurement of the system’s power levels.
The device has two adjustable fault threshold inputs, which are fixed and adjustable. The fixed settings include OV fault, UV fault and I/O fault. The adjustable settings include OV fault and UV fault. The user must define the settings based on the application and system.
The STM6315SDW13F provides an effective, cost efficient way of safeguarding a system from catastrophic failure due to wrong voltages and currents. Its wide range of features makes it a powerful solution for reset circuitry in space-limited systems and for voltage and current protection.
