Working Principle

STPS2L60AY is a general rectification and freewheeling component. It is a two-terminal semiconductor device with two active layers of semiconductor material, a P-type (positive) layer and an N-type (negative) layer. When current is applied to a diode, one of the two layers of material acts as an electron barrier, preventing current from flowing in the reverse direction. The P-type layer effectively blocks current flowing in the negative direction, while the N-type layer blocks current flowing in the positive direction. This one-directional flow of current is called rectification, hence the term rectifier diode.

The main task of a rectifier diode is to convert AC (alternating current) to DC (direct current).
