The working principle of the diode is based on the move of conduction current through the diode being allowed only in one direction. When a forward bias is applied to the diode, it allows the current to pass through it, and when a reverse voltage is applied, it stops any current to pass through it. The voltage drop is checked on the terminal, if it’s more than the maximum forward threshold, it enables the current to flow in the forward bias mode. When reverse bias is applied, it stops any current to flow in the reverse bias mode and makes sure no current flows in the opposite direction. The forward voltage drop of the diode defines the performance limits, as it affects the current carrying capacity and efficiency of the device.
