The SY100EL38ZC-TR is a sub-miniature, low power programmable low jitter clock generator and fan-out buffer that helps reduce system power consumption and component count. The SY100EL38ZC-TR clock generator has the capability to individually program 128 individual outputs. All four outputs have 3.3V LVCMOS, 2.5V LVCMOS, 1.8V LVCMOS and 1.2V LVCMOS compatibility. The programmable clock generator can reduce system component count by integrated output termination, extended temperature range operation and programmable output frequencies, eliminating the need for discrete local oscillators.
The SY100EL38ZC-TR features a spread spectrum modulated oscillator, which is highly reliable and is capable of generating frequencies at up to 1.2GHz with a variety of output formats. The clock generator provides multiple outputs and independent, discrete controls for spread spectrum, allowing designers to independently control the ratio, amplitude and reference for each output.

Working Principle of SY100EL38ZC-TR
The SY100EL38ZC-TR clock generator utilizes a PLL-based technology with a combination of frequency multiplication, frequency modulation and frequency divider functions to generate frequencies up to 1.2GHz. The PLL consists of a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO), a phase frequency detector (PFD), a charge pump and a loop filter. The VCO generates a square wave oscillating at a fixed frequency determined by the user input. The PFD compares the phase and frequency of the square wave generated by the VCO with a reference clock and this resulting error signal is passed through the loop filter to the charge pump. The charge pump then boosts or bleeds off the charge from the filter and sets the correct frequency for the VCO. The filter and charge pump combination acts as a closed control loop, which keeps the oscillation frequency stable.
