Logic translators, level shifters and other similar devices have become increasingly important to digital systems, often working as the underlying circuitry for interfacing components with different signal levels and signal formats. Among these devices is the SY100ELT24ZG-TR, an Erasable Programmable Logic Device (EPLD) designed to enable bi-directional voltage-level shifting between two Bus designs, high-voltage and low-voltage versions.
The SY100ELT24ZG-TR is a 24-pin transistor-transistor logic (TTL) EPLD, with 24 inputs – eight connected to low-voltage lines, eight connected to high-voltage lines, five control inputs and one output. It is designed to be used primarily in high-speed bi-directional Bus interface and switching applications, allowing for reliable and seamless communication between devices of different signal formats. The SY100ELT24ZG-TR has the flexibility necessary for implementing a variety of bi-directional voltage-level shifting applications, such as data conversion between high- and low-voltage Bus designs and level-transition from TTL or lower-voltage logic to higher voltages.
The SY100ELT24ZG-TR is a versatile device thanks to its reprogrammable characteristics. Once programmed, the device can be erased multiple times and re-programmed for different applications. Its 24 addressable TTL/CMOS logic states of each of the 24 input and output channels can be customized for optimum performance across different system interfaces, making it ideal for multi-interface systems. In addition, the static TTL-style outputs can be combined with CLK and programmable dynamic TTL-style outputs, allowing the device to support high-speed applications with output speeds of up to 200 MHz.
At the heart of the SY100ELT24ZG-TR is its unique ability to provide bi-directional logic-level translation and switching between two different voltage levels. This level conversion is implemented using EPROM, allowing the device to perform high-speed logic switching operations. The low-voltage side of the device is powered by a 5V CMOS power supply, while the high-voltage side is powered by a 28V supply, at which the device is capable of switching signals up to 28V. The device is designed to be configured as either a translator or a buffer, depending on the specific application. In translator mode, the device is designed to faithfully convert digital input signals into the appropriate level for the desired output voltage. In buffer mode, the device is designed to pass input signals without level-conversion, but with additional protection from overvoltage conditions.
The SY100ELT24ZG-TR is an ideal device for moderate-to-high speed bi-directional data communication between high-voltage and low-voltage circuits and Bus designs.
