Tantalum-Polymer CapacitorsTantalum-Polymer capacitors (T-P caps) combine features of Tantalum capacitors and Polymer capacitors. The structure of the T-P capacitor consists of a polymer-carbon composite as the cathode and a sintered tantalum filter anode. The material of the anode offers a high level of energy storage and the polymer material on the cathode side provides greater flexibility, lower leakage currents, and the ability to increase capacitance.The T55P106M004C0200 capacitor is a surface mounted tantalum capacitor which combines the attributes of both Tantalum and Polymer capacitors. This capacitor provides excellent frequency response, long life expectancy and high ripple current capability, making it suitable for both military and commercial applications. Its small profile makes it suitable for space-constrained applications.Tantalum-polymer capacitors have many advantages over traditional Tantalum capacitors. This type of capacitor has a greater volumetric efficiency, higher ripple current tolerance, lower equivalent series resistance, and most importantly, much lower leakage current. This means that when compared to traditional Tantalum capacitors, T-P capacitors offer a much more stable and uniform voltage over time.The way a tantalum-polymer capacitor works is relatively simple. Inside the capacitor, there is a anode and cathode separated by an electrolytic polymer material. When a voltage is applied to anode and cathode, an electric current will flow through the electrolytic material, causing a charge to build up on the cathode until it reaches the voltage of the anode, at this point the capacitor is considered to be “fully charged”. The capacitor will then be able to store electric energy until the applied voltage is removed.The T55P106M004C0200 capacitor is an SMT tantalum-polymer chip style capacitor designed for high temperature applications up to 125°C, and is suitable for use in highly reliable, long-term applications.
