Tantalum Capacitors

Tantalum capacitors are components that allow for the storage they store electrical energy in a form of electrostatic charge. The T86C106K020EBSL is a tantalum surface mounting capacitor from Vishay Semiconductor that is specifically designed for low impedance applications such as voltage snubber circuits for avoiding voltage overshoots, decoupling for microprocessors and other complex circuits and feedback circuits for DC/DC converters.

Working Principle

When the capacitor is connected to a power source, electrons from the cathode are drawn towards the anode in the process of electrostatic induction, creating a negative static charge. As the capacitor is charged, the static charge causes an electrical field between the anode and cathode, which then attracts further electrons from the cathode. The greater the charge, the greater the corresponding charge stored in the capacitor, allowing current to flow. When the capacitor is no longer connected to the power source, the positive and negative charges remain stored in the capacitor, allowing current to continue to flow for a short period of time. Because of its low ESR and high capacitance, the T86C106K020EBSL is ideal for controlling voltage snubbers, reducing spikes, and providing even supply of power for DC-DC converters.
