Working Principle

A Tantalum capacitor works on an electrochemical principle. The capacitor is formed by stack two electrodes and an electrolyte solution in between them. The anode, cathode, and electrolyte solution form a semicircle, and when a voltage source is connected, an electrical current will flow. As the current flows, the surface area of the anode increases, which enables more ions to be attracted to it. This increases the concentration of ions on the anode side, which leads to the accumulation of charge and the creation of an electric field.

This electric field attracts more and more ions to the anode side, which eventually starts to polarize the capacitor. As more current flows, a larger electric field is formed, and the capacitance increases. When the current stops flowing, the electric field will cease to exist, and the polarization will dissipate.
