Tantalum Capacitors

Tantalum capacitors are built of two binary components - a solid electrolyte and a tightly wound spiral tantalum wire. As with other types of capacitors, the T95X106K010HZSL is used for filtering or buffering of current, voltage and frequency control, high speed signal processing, video signal conditioning and permissive signaling.

Application Field​

Tantalum capacitors are used predominantly in high frequency and high temperature applications such as computer memory modules, semiconductor devices, high speed processors, bleeding edge audio equipment, and high-end medical instrumentation. This type of capacitor is ideal for applications which require high capacitance, high temperature, and low leakage current such as signal filtering or buffering of current, voltage, and frequency control. High frequency filtering applications are another common use for tantalum capacitors, given their ability to store large amounts of energy without suffering significant voltage losses.

Working Principle​

The design of a tantalum capacitor consists of two binary components - a solid electrolyte and a tightly wound spiral tantalum wire. When voltage is applied, this unique design creates a current loop. As current creeps along the spiral wire, it is forced to pass through the electrolyte before entering the positive and negative electrodes. This creates a "field effect" which allows the capacitor to store greater amounts of energy than conventional aluminum or ceramic capacitors. The higher energy density of tantalum capacitors allows for a much smaller form factor than other types of capacitors, making them ideal for space-constrained applications.

As with other types of capacitors, the T95X106K010HZSL is highly reliable and operates over a wide temperature range. Unlike electrochemical capacitors, it is very capacitance stable over time and exhibits a high self-healing property. This capacitor type also offers very low losses due to its high specific dielectric constant, and is highly resistant to shock and vibration.

Tantalum capacitors offer several advantages over standard capacitors, most notably their excellent capacitance stability over time and voltage range, very high breakdown voltage, high frequency characteristics and excellent power density. In addition, tantalum capacitors are insensitive to alternating or pulsing current and are very dependable for use in high voltage circuits.
