Tantalum capacitors, series T95Y476K6R3EZAL, are electrochemical capacitors utilizing the electrical properties of an insoluble and solid electrolyte. Typically, these capacitors consist of a powder element formed from a tantalum slurry, a metal case and a sealed cover for protection. They are widely used in consumer and military electronics, as well as medical, audio and power applications due to their high capacitance values, reliability and low leakage currents.The T95Y476K6R3EZAL is a unique capacitor series that offers performance capabilities beyond other forms of tantalum capacitors. This series features a surge current rating of up to 175 amps peak peak, and offers a higher operating temperature and a lower “capacuctor noise” than traditional capacitor design. It features a higher temperature range (-55°C up to 125°C), with a more reliable ESR performance than conventional tantalum capacitors.The T95Y476K6R3EZAL is a true “Drop-In” replacement for existing tantalum capacitors, and features an optional solder overlayer option for additional protection. It can be used in a wide variety of environmental and performance applications, including temperature cycling, high vibration and environmental effects.Tantalum capacitors have a unique working principle that makes them useful in many applications. The basic structure of a tantalum capacitor consists of two conductive electrodes separated by a solid electrolyte. One electrode is composed of tantalum metal and is submerged in an electrolyte of potassium hydroxide. When a voltage is applied to the capacitor, current flows to the tantalum metal electrode, creating a thin, electrically insulating layer of oxide on the surface. This layer of oxide acts like a dielectric (insulating material) and allows the capacitor to store energy. The capacitor’s capacitance is determined by how much charge can be stored on the oxide layer.Tantalum capacitors are widely used in consumer electronics and modern electronics due to their low leakage current, high reliability, and high capacitance values. They can be used in applications ranging from power filters and low-noise amplifiers to high-voltage rectifiers and switching regulators.
