Tantalum Capacitors

Tantalum Capacitors are a type of the electrolytic capacitor which primarily consists of two electrodes made of Tantalum, an oxide layer and an electrolyte. It is a type of polarized capacitor whose polarity is determined by the markings on the capacitor’s body. These features make tantalum capacitors more suitable for applications which require miniature designs and reliable temperature performance.

TAP475M035GSB Application Fields and Working Principle

The TAP475M035GSB is a type of Tantalum Capacitor which is Miniature sized and hence is suitable for tight and space restricted applications, along with those which require reliable temperature performance and miniature designs. The TAP475M035GSB, with its maximum operating temperature of 125°C and size of 4.0mm X 1.5mm in the EIA-3528 package, is ideal for circuit design applications which require a hassle free and compact design. The TAP475M035GSB capacitor refers to a 35V 10uf Capacitor.

The working principle of the TAP475M035GSB is based on the behavior of an ordinary capacitor, wherein two conductors or plates are separated by an insulator or dielectric. The capacitor collects electric charge when a potential difference is applied across the two electrodes and stores the same for a certain amount of time, starting from when the applied potential, voltage and current is removed from the capacitor. An electrical current passing through a smaller plate of the TAP475M035GSB capacitor which is mounted in the negative terminal to the main power supply and a larger plate in the positive terminal creates an electrostatic field and separates electro-positive from the electro-negative charge, thus allowing the capacitor to store an electrical charge.

The electro-positive charge accumulates at the positive electrode of the capacitor and the electro-negative charge accumulates at the negative electrode. The size of the accumulated charge will only depend on the size and capacity of the capacitor, along with the applied voltage value. When the applied voltage and current to the capacitor is removed, the electrical charge remains stored there, regardless of any changes in the values of current or voltage.

In addition, the TAP475M035GSB Capacitor also comes with an aluminum electrolytic material, which is a layer of aluminum oxide which is highly water-resistant, and hence is ideal for applications which require high reliability and are subject to extremely wet conditions or moisture. It also acts as a protective layer to the electrolytic material of the capacitor, thus improving its efficiency and also provides better temperature stability.
