The TDA7496L is an integrated audio IC meant for high-powered audio device designs. It is a class-D amplifier for example for applications in a car radio installation or sound system for a home audio device. It provides very high audio fidelity, efficiency and affordability. Furthermore, it provides an excellent value for money: although its performance parameters are not quite what you would get from higher-end devices, the overall performance and output level is still very good considering the price.

The TDA7496L is capable of delivering a full 2 x 150 W output power into 4 ohm speakers or 2 x 80 W into 8 ohm speakers. The power output is generated by efficient class-D audio amplifiers, which also offer excellent audio fidelity. The working principle of the TDA7496L audio class-D amplifier is based on pulse width modulation (PWM), which is used to convert an analog input signal into a sequence of digital pulses, each pulse having an associated width, which is then used to drive an audio power stage, producing an amplified audio output signal. In the simplest implementation of this topology, the TDA7496L audio IC operates with an input signal that is applied to an RC low-pass filter, resulting in a signal that is suitable for sampling. The next stage is the peak detector and comparator, which converts the analog signal into a digital signal and is sent to the PWM block, which performs the final conversion of the signal into a digital signal. This digital signal is then sent to the output stage, which is the power amplifier, and is responsible for driving the audio output signal to the speakers.
