Optical Sensors - Phototransistors is an efficient technology which is widely applied in automatic industrial fields, such as in food processing, machine vision, medical imaging, security systems, and so forth. TEPT5700 is one of the most-used phototransistor, which is renowned for its high stability and strong anti-interference ability.
In the absolute darkness condition, the TEPT5700 output current should remain low or zero. When it is exposed to light of certain wavelength, the output current increases significantly. This is because, while being illuminated by light, the base-emitter current of the phototransistor increases, resulting in a large emitter-collector current.
The wavelength sensitivity of the TEPT5700 is specialized concerning its application in the specific field. Therefore, the emitted light of the scene shall match the cutoff wavelength of the sensor. Generally, it covers the range from 400nm to 700nm. The peak of its high sensitivity is at 550nm, which is in the visible light range.
In addition, the TEPT5700 output current is correlated to the intensity of the light through a very rapid response. It can reach the maximum output current within 1μs when the incident light intensity increase with the maximum of the linear region.
By and large, the TEPT5700 contains features of high sensitivity, fast response time, low noise level, and strong anti-interference capability, etc. It is normally used in various fields, such as optical switching, night vision system, light dimming detection, flame detection, and color recognition system.
As for its working principle, the phototransistor contains P-N junction like any other transistor. Except for man-made current gain, its current amplification further amplified by light stimulus. As the P-N junction is illuminated with enough light, it will generate one pairs of carriers. The carriers increase their probability of encountering with each other, causing increase of current.
Moreover, the phototransistor is also well-known for its great temperature stability. Most of the phototransistors can keep the same output current even the temperature changes for -40℃ to +85℃. This can prevent from the output value interruption caused by the temperature change.
In summary, the TEPT5700 is an efficient and specialized phototransistor with high quality performance. It covers the common application field and is capable of working precisely in high temperature. This also makes it a favorable choice for automatic industrial control system.
