Temperature Sensors - PTC Thermistors
Overheating sensors are often used to keep sensitive equipment safe from too much heat. Poly-Switch PTC Thermistors, or positive temperature coefficient thermistors, are one type of device used to protect equipment, detect faults and regulate temperature. The TFPT0603L6800FM is a typical example, which we will use to explain the general working principles and application fields of the PTC Thermistors.
The TFPT0603L6800FM PTC thermistor is a ceramic based resistive device that activates when the specific temperature is reached. It is an inexpensive and reliable way to detect when the temperature have exceeded a certain specified threshold, typically set with user creativity. A current is passed through the thermistor, causing a resistance value related to temperature. The resistance value changes with temperature, hence the name “thermistor”.
