Optoisolators, also known as solid state relays or isolators, are devices that transmit signals between two or more isolated circuits using light sources. They provide electrical isolation between input and output sides, thus providing protection for the circuits. The TIL1113S is an optoisolator with a transistor, photovoltaic output.

The TIL1113S is a 4-pin Bidirectional Optoisolator with positive input interaction and a transconductance output. It features a 645nm high-intensity red LED as the light source, and a low-power NPN phototransistor as the photodetector. The output stage is an integrated complementary NPN/PNP large-signal transistors designed for driving higher current loads, allowed to drive up to 150mA load current.

Applications

Working principle

The TIL1113S optoisolator isolates two circuits electrically by using a light source as an interface. It consists of a light source (LED) and a phototransistor connected in reverse-bias configuration. The light source is supplied an input signal, which generates photons that are collected by the phototransistor. The electrons generated from the photons in the phototransistor turn-on the integrated NPN and PNP transistors to output the signals. The isolation design between the input and output sides prevent any DC or AC interference from reaching the load circuit.

The gain of the optoisolator can be controlled using the input current. This feature allows the user to optimize the input current and to set the exact gain required for the application.The high LED intensity and flat gain temperature coefficient also add value to this device. These characteristics provide reliable operation over a wide range of temperatures while preventing gains from changing due to temperature fluctuations.
