PMIC or Power Management Integrated Circuits enable the delivery of power from power sources such as batteries to loads and other critical circuits. Supervisors are PMICs that help monitor and regulate power supplies from the load to the controller. It provides a threshold to protect system from unpredictable or undesired transient behaviours. An example of the supervisor is the TL7705AIDG4, which is mainly used for LCD- LED display protection.

The TL7705AIDG4 is a low-power and low- voltage supervisor that draws very low quiescent current. It allows the detection of voltage levels up to 3.6V ± 0.9V and operates within a wide temperature range of -40℃ to +85℃. It supports both hot-plug and cold-plug detection with a 5-millisecond deglitch time. It can detect one or two voltage levels and can also be used as a watchdog timer for resetting the system.

It will also generate an open-drain output signal at the FLG pin, which can be used to inform the system that a reset has occurred. The reset output will stay low as long as the voltage monitored by the supervisor is below the stipulated threshold.

The TL7705AIDG4 is ideal for LCD and LED display protection. The device is able to detect when the voltage from the load exceeds a specified threshold and will trigger a reset signal to the system, ensuring that the LCD and LED display will not be damaged. In addition, the device also has a watchdog timer circuit that can be used to reset the system if the voltage monitored by the supervisor remains at below the specified threshold for more than 3 milliseconds.

Apart from LCD and LED display protection, the TL7705AIDG4 can also be used as a supply voltage monitor for critical microcontroller signals. By monitoring the supply voltage, it can prevent sudden shut-downs due to power disruptions. Additionally, the device can be used as a power-on reset circuit that is able to detect initial voltage conditions before the system can begin normal operation. In all these applications, the TL7705AIDG4 demonstrates its effectiveness as a power supply supervisor.
