The TLC4541ID converts inputs in the 4 – 20 mA range into digital outputs. It is based on Sigma-Delta modulator topology and pulse density conversion principle. Also, it includes a Digital Low Pass Filter (LPF) which decimates the output of the modulator, leading to a digital output.

At its core, the TLC4541ID uses a second order sigma-delta modulator. The modulator receives the input signal from the external filter and adds an upper and lower threshold to it to reduce the noise in the conversion process. At the output side, the modulator then provides digital samples of the analog signal to the digital low pass filter. After the filter, the digital samples are converted into 16 bit analog digital converter outputs.
