TLC6C5816EVM is an integrated monolithic high-performance PWLED driver that integrates two modules, a Holtek high-voltage integrated pulse-width modulation (PWM) controller and a TI low-side MOSFET switch. In other words, it is an efficient and low cost alternative for driving PWLEDs. The TLC6C5816EVM is called the Evaluation Module (EVM) in the industry and the purpose of the EVM is to provide the user with an evaluation board to evaluate the performance of the component in a real time environment.

The EVM is used to evaluate the performance of the TLC6C5816EVM in the field of LED drivers. The EVM consists of the TLC6C5816EVM, the power supply, a PC board, some connectors and jumper wire, and two tiny interface modules. When all of these components are embedded into the power supply, it creates the complete driver system.

The purpose of the TLC6C5816EVM is to provide a simple, easy-to-use solution for driving up to 6 PWLED strings with 32mA current, up to 2 string could be directly connected to the driver and reduce the cost of an external current source. The EVM can provide up to 32mA with best efficiency and no additional software is required to achieve it. It has dimming capability, that is, it can reduce current to the LED which will create different degree of light output.

The TLC6C5816EVM supports both linear (PWM) and logarithmic (analog dimming) modulations for dimming the LED. It has a high-voltage side for driving PWLEDs and it can switch off the PWLED current when no input control signal is present. The EVM also has an on-board I2C bus for controlling the brightness, color and dimming of the PWLEDs.

The TLC6C5816EVM has four signal pins for regulating the LED brightness. By changing the state of the pin, the LED current can be varied. The I2C bus can be used to modify the configuration of the IC. The EVM has a separate power supply for the IC, which is switched by the control pin of the external power supply.

The EVM works on the principle of current regulation and has two internal shunts that provide total control. The first shunt regulates the current to the PWLEDs while the second shunt is used to detect the current and adjust the state of the power supply thereby controlling the brightness of the PWLEDs.

The EVM has built in protection against over-voltage, over-current and over-temperature for enhanced reliability and safety. The EVM also offers integrated thermal-shock protection and fast transient response for better control and protection of the PWLEDs.

The TLC6C5816EVM is an extremely efficient, easy to use and cost effective solution for driving up to 6 PWLED strings. It has several advantages such as low cost, no additional software needed, high accuracy current regulation, and fast transient response. The EVM is also ideal for applications where dimming of the LED is necessary. The EVM is an ideal solution for LED drivers in applications such as LED lighting, signage and decorative lighting.
