TLD2310ELXUMA1 is a LED driver PMIC (Power Management IC) released by Tokyo Electronic Corporation. It is composed of a current regulated buck-boost converter and a hysteretic PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) controller. The TLD2310ELXUMA1 can provide wide-ranging output voltages and currents to drive LEDs connected in series and parallel, thus offering both cost and power efficiency advantages.
Application field
The TLD2310ELXUMA1 LED driver PMIC is designed for use in a variety of lighting applications, including headlights, taillights, emergency vehicle lighting, landscape lighting and general household LED lighting. It is also used in larger solar-powered systems such as charging stations, solar-powered street lights, and solar-powered carports. The Kyocera’s 4-inch square TLD2310ELXUMA1 LED driver PMIC is ideal for applications where space is limited but efficient power management is crucial.
Working principle
The TLD2310ELXUMA1 PMIC operates on a hysteretic PWM protocol that reduces electrical noise and provides stable output. It features adjustable output voltage range, allowing a minimum and maximum output voltage to be adjusted to suit specific application needs, and utilizes an overload protection feature to protect the LED driver. The circuit also includes both open- and short-circuit protections and is capable of automatically switching between the two modes. The hysteretic PWM operates by using a single PWM signal to control the output voltage and current, eliminating the need for multiple regulators and improving overall efficiency.
The TLD2310ELXUMA1LED driver PMIC\'s current-regulating buck-boost converter ensures that the maximum current applied to the LEDs remains within their specified limits, even under varying load conditions. This converter utilises a power MOSFET (metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor) switch to supply the output current and a current sense resistor to sense the load current. By comparing the sensed load current with the reference voltage, the circuit is able to adjust the on-time of the power MOSFET switch, allowing it to adjust the output current and maintain an accurate LED current. The current regulation accuracy of the TLD2310ELXUMA1 PMIC is +/- 2%.
The TLD2310ELXUMA1 LED driver PMIC also offers external PTC (positive temperature coefficient) protection, which shuts down the converter when the temperature of the PTC reaches a set threshold. This protection allows for a wide range of operational temperatures, from -25°C to +70°C, and can be conveniently monitored and adjusted from the external control interface.
The monitor outputs of the TLD2310ELXUMA1 PMIC provide uncommitted analog current signals that can be used to monitor the temperature and current of the LEDs; this ensures that the LEDs are correctly operated and allow the system designer to observe and control the LED operation. In addition, the converter includes a low-input voltage lockout feature which prevents operation when the input voltage drops below the specified minimum.
Overall, the TLD2310ELXUMA1 LED driver PMIC offers an excellent combination of features including an efficient current regulation, adjustable output voltage, wide temperature range support, overload protection, and adjustable open- and short-circuit protection, making it a great choice for LED lighting applications.
