PMIC - LED Drivers

TLE4242EJXUMA1 is a LED driver IC which provides bilateral power management and LED control functions. It is a buck LED driver with a built-in high-side and low-side control. It provides six independent LED control outputs, which can be divided into two groups, and each group can be operated in the same or different mode. It has high level of integrated power and load current control. It has a wide operating voltage range between 4.5V to 40V, a very low quiescent current, three power sequences, and a high efficiency. Working Principle

TLE4242EJXUMA1 works by controlling the current in two or more paths. As mentioned, it has three power sequences: Buck, Buck-Boost, and Boost. This allows for control of the LED current and voltage, making it suitable for a variety of LED applications.

When powering the device, it will operate on a Buck circuit where the input voltage is greater than the output voltage. The device employs two power switches, one connected to the input source, and the other is connected to the ground line. In the Buck-Boost mode, the input voltage is less than the output voltage. In this mode, the switches will be off at the beginning and when the voltage reaches the desired output voltage level the switches will be activated. The resulting power will be delivered from the voltage source to the LEDs.

The third option is Boost mode. In this mode, the output voltage is greater than the input voltage. In this case, the power switches are connected to the ground line and the voltage source is connected in series with the switches. The regulating strategy for this mode is similar to that of the Buck-Boost mode, with the switches turning on and off to control the output voltage level.
