TLE72722DATMA1 is a low-cost, three-terminal fixed output voltage regulator, featuring low-dropout voltage, line and load regulation, thermal regulation and logic level enable. This voltage regulator can provide precision and ultra-low dropout voltage regulation while delivering up to 100mA of output current. Working Principle

The TLE72722DATMA1 contains an integrated linear regulator and a power MOSFET, with a bandgap voltage reference, an error amplifier, and PWM circuit that’s coupled with a low-on resistance buck switch. This combination provides the output voltage regulation, current foldback protection, thermal foldback protection, and power good signal functions.

The bandgap voltage reference inside the device sets the regulated output voltage. The error amplifier reset the output voltage with the external resistors connected to the adjust pin that acts as a voltage divider network setting the reference voltage. The duty cycle is adjusted by the PWM controller in order to regulate the output voltage. If the output current is higher than the limit, the internal current monitor will sense the voltage drop across the MOSFET and will reduce the duty-cycle.

The transistor inside the regulator is used to reduce power supply noise by drawing a ground reference current path when the regulator is not switching. It also provides a low output voltage bias current. After the output voltage is fully regulated and the over-current protection is enabled, the controller will set low-on resistance buck switch on and the regulator will be able to supply the specified output current.

The current foldback protection feature allows the voltage regulator to maintain a safe output voltage while providing the best output current regulation. The low thermal regulation loop gives the TLE72722DATMA1 the capability to protect its own circuit from an excessive temperature increase. A power good signal is used to alert devices when the output voltage or output current exceeds the threshold.
