TLHP5100 Working Principle

The TLHP5100 is a single element LED device housed in a tiny package, such as the 0.84 x 0.83mm SMD package. The device is based on a single LED die, formed by a p-n junction between an N-doped semiconductor region and a P-doped semiconductor region. A transparent contact is situated over the semiconductor regions, typically made of metals such as aluminum, nickel or gold. The LED is then connected to a substrate, with connections to the contact provided by a transparent protective film. The contactsof the LEDare connected to a small circuit board, which controls the voltage and currentduring operation.

The circuit board contains two components, a transistor and a driver. The transistor is the switching element and is responsible for the on/off controlof the LED. The driver consists of capacitors and a resistor, which is used to control the LED current.The LED is switched on when the transistor is off and currentflows through the LED.
