TLHR6405 from OSI Optoelectronics is one such device which has gained traction in the industry as a solution for discrete illuminated indicators in specialized and demanding applications.

TLHR6405 Product Overview

The TLHR6405 employs a rectifying Schottky diode, combined with a T-shaped thermal pad partially encapsulated in a polyamide material. It has a minimum configuration of 15.0 mm x 14.0 mm (L x W) and is available in various configurations ranging from 2.8 mm to 5.0 mm thickness and a series of off- state forward voltages ranging from 1.2 ~ 3.2V. It is also offered in four different configurations that offer an extensive range of output currents from 200 mA to 650 mA.

Its wide range of external coatings further allows it to seamlessly blend in with the target application design and its long working life, even with high currents and temperatures, makes it a top choice for demanding environments.

Z-Axis Structural Design

The TLHR6405 is designed for a wide range of applications and fully incorporated with a novel Z-Axis design which splits the heat dissipation material from the LED chip and rectifier for thermal management, contributing to a uniform brightness distribution. This also considerably reduces the thermal dissipation of the device, allowing for a higher LED current and an increased LED brightness. The TLHR6405 also offers an optional full body encapsulation for further LED brightness performance, efficient thermal management and a dust proof housing.

Working Principle of TLHR6405

The TLHR6405 device works based on a rectifying Schottky diode along with a T-shaped thermal pad. This diode has a negative temperature coefficient to ensure that the LED maintains a consistent brightness intensity. It also features a unique low forward voltage power source, allowing it to accurately control the current into the LED while providing stable illumination. The LED is placed on top of a thermally-conductive adhesive, connecting the LED to the diode, which heats up and shifts the current away from the LED. The diode also reversely biases the diode, meaning that less current is required for the LED to operate. The TLHR6405 device is designed to reduce the stress on the LED, resulting in better performance and longer working life.
