It is popularly used in PMIC - Voltage Reference applications. The TLV431AILPE3 has a wide operating temperature range and is available in an 8-lead SOIC package. The TLV431AILPE3 is a three terminal adjustable precision voltage reference. It is designed to provide a stable voltage reference with a wide operating temperature range of -25ºC to +85ºC, and can both sink and source current up to 10 mA. In addition, the TLV431AILPE3 has a typical thermal resistance of 1.5K/W. The device is available in four fixed output voltage options of 1.2V, 1.5V, 2.5V, and 4.096V, which are specified over the temperature range of -25°C to +85°C.

The working principle of the TLV431AILPE3 is simple. The device consists of two functional blocks; a reference diode and a high gain differential amplifier. The reference diode creates a fixed reference voltage that is buffered by the amplifier. The output of the amplifier is then regulated by an external control voltage, which is applied at the device\'s third terminal. This voltage reduces the current applied to the reference diode, and thereby, reduces the output voltage. This way, the output voltage can be programmed via the control voltage and the device\'s input-output relationship is linear.
